Marshalltown

Ed Polzin of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on October 4, 2025. Ed donated his body to the Des Moines University, so there will be no memorial services at this time.

Ed was born October 22, 1938, in Alden, Iowa, to Ernst and Ester Polzin. Ed graduated from Alden High school and worked on the family farm until 1960. On April 9, 1961, Ed married Charlene Simpson, his high school sweetheart, and they located in Marshalltown, Iowa, where he took a job at the Marshall County ASC offices. Ed also worked at the Firestone Store, and in 1963 took a position as an accountant with RD Stewart Construction, Marshalltown, where he was employed until his retirement 37 years later.

Surviving Ed are his wife Char of 64 years, children: Timothy Polzin (Dorothy) of Marshalltown, Iowa, Penny Polzin Schmidt (Brian) of Clive, Iowa, grandchildren; Owen, Olivia and Andrew, and son Jason J Polzin of Bloomfield Colorado, and grandchildren Cassandra and Hunter. Ed also leaves behind sister Mick Kramer of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, brother Rich Polzin of Des Moines, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

Ed was a hardworking man, his children looked upon him as their “renaissance dad”. Ed was always willing to tackle any task, and he generally accomplished it. Ed took great delight in his grandchildren, attempting to pass on his love of popcorn and the Cyclones to everyone that he could!

Ed was active in the Marshalltown Little League, coaching his sons, and later as an umpire and Indian Princess with his daughter.

Proceeding Ed in Death were his parents, sisters Paula, Wilma and Lois, brother Harold and nephews Steve and Jon Williams, and Mark Kramer.

-Lovingly written by Ed’s family.
