Elaine Marie Freeman, 98, of Marshalltown, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at the Iowa River Hospice House. To honor her and her family’s wishes, cremation rites will be given and a public graveside service and burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA will be announced at a later date. She grew up in the area of her birth and graduated from high school. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Marshalltown. She faithfully served our country in the marine corps during WW II. After her honorable discharge, she accepted employment as a telephone operator in Marshalltown but later joined the Internal Revenue Service as a clerical worker and postal worker. Most recently, Elaine owned and operated a tavern for more than thirty years before retiring. When not at work, she enjoyed gardening. She married Larry Freeman on October 15, 1985 in Las Vegas and was a perfect wife. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Larry; her children, Roger Kunde and Cindy (David) Lynch; two grandsons and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Preceding her in death are her parents and twelve siblings.
