Elaine Starn

Elaine Starn, 84, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. The family will have a private graveside service. Elaine Dorothy Mason was born on November 30, 1931 in Marshalltown, Iowa; she was the daughter of Watson and Lavina (Harris) Mason. Elaine attended school in the Toledo school district and was a graduate. She went on and received her training to be a Nurses Aide. On August 26, 1951, Elaine was united in marriage to Roy Starn at the Methodist Church in Toledo. They had lived in Toledo, moved to Melbourne in 1974, and to the Veterans Home in 2006. She had been employed at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center for 14 years and then went to State Center and Rehab Center as a Nurses Aide. Elaine had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Toledo and then Melbourne, Iowa and was also a member of the Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed her crafts, mostly ceramics, as she had her own kiln, and collecting dolls. She loved and adored her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gary Starn of Ames, Richard (Kathleen) Starn of Marshalltown and David Starn of Baxter; 6 grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. In death Elaine rejoins her parents, Watson and Lavina, husband, Roy, sons, Steven and Larry Starn.
