Eleanor Latham

Eleanor Latham, 91, of Marshalltown, died Sunday evening, April 6, 2014, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Born on September 23, 1922, in Jasper County, Iowa, Eleanor was the daughter of William and Ellen (Maiers) Allen. Soon after her birth, the family moved to Gilman where she graduated from high school. On January 3, 1942, Eleanor was united in marriage to Harlan Latham, from Dunbar, Iowa. The two made their home in Marshalltown where they were blessed with two children, Jim and Karen. Eleanor and Harlan moved to Laurel in 1949 and lived there until 1964. Eleanor was employed at Marshalltown Manufacturing for many years until retiring and devoted her time for 35 -plus years to the MACH/MMSC Auxiliary. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Marshalltown, and also the Laurel United Methodist Church. For over 50 years, Eleanor was one of the most passionate members of the I-Club, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and even following them to the Rose Bowl. Left to cherish Eleanors memory are her son, Jim, of Clear Lake, Iowa; a granddaughter, Sara; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and many friends. In death, Eleanor rejoined her beloved husband, Harlan, who passed away in 1993; her daughter, Karen, who died in 2001; her granddaughter, Heather, who died in 1993; her parents; two sisters: Mary and Sara; and a brother, Bill.
