Elenora Gregory

Elenora R. Gregory, 95, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the morning of Monday, June 19, 2023 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

A visitation will take place on Friday, June 23 from 1:00 to 2:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Oakhill Cemetery in Tama immediately after the visitation. Born Elenora Ruth Church on May 16, 1928 in Norborne, Missouri, she was the daughter of Elmer Duvall and Florence Mabel (Elliot) Church. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Alva Tompkins and the couple was blessed with five children. Elenora worked several jobs over the years including Iowa Veterans Home, County Care facility and Marshalltown Manor. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing, word find and crossword puzzles and watching Wheel of Fortune. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and going to the casino. She was also a member of the Marshalltown CB Club. She was short and sassy and loved her cats and dogs. More than anything else, she enjoyed spending time with her family, barbequing and hosting Christmas in July.

Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Laura (Doug) Hewitt of Vacaville, CA, Benham (Laura) Tompkins of Gladbrook, IA, Jack (Joyce) Tompkins of Marshalltown, IA, Ruth (Glen) Leeper of Clemens, IA and Nancy Tompkins of Marshalltown, IA; grandchildren: Leon, Lynn, Christine, Melissa, Bobbie, Jack, Jeremy, Jeffrey, Jason, Justin, Lonny, Andrew and Tony; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In eternal life, Elenora is reunited with her parents, Elmer and Florence Church, grandson Benham Tompkins Jr., former spouse Alva Tompkins and her ten siblings.
