Elizabeth "Betty" Matt

Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Matt 83 moved on to a better place June 4, 2020. Visitation for Betty will be Saturday, June 13 at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 P.M. She grew up in a close family with her older sister Margaret, and brothers Fred and Bob. They all had a love for lake life growing up so close to Lake Michigan. While Betty was in high school her father purchased a cottage on Lake of the Woods in Indiana. This became the location for many great family vacations for years to come. Betty met her husband, Leo while he was a student at Notre Dame and she was working as a secretary for one of the Professors. They married upon his graduation in Notre Dame’s Sacred Heart Basilica. They raised five boys Marshall, Greg, Tim, Jeff, and Gary. Betty was the glue that kept them grounded and focused on the importance of family, finding their purpose, and the belief in God. An angel if ever there was one, she was the equivalent to a modern day Life Coach helping the boys to see their potential, and build their confidence to go after their dreams. Each eventually ventured into the world making her proud of them. Nothing made her happy more than talking about her family.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She will be missed dearly and is survived by all five sons: Marshall (Cindy) Matt of Bettendorf, IA; Dr. Greg (Robin) Matt of Houston, TX; Tim (Betty) Matt of Frisco, TX; Jeff (Joanne) Matt of Bettendorf, IA; and Dr. Gary (Courtney) Matt of Des Moines IA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
