Ellen (Peters) Clemens

Ellen Clemens, age 76, of Tama, Iowa passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Sunny Hill Care Center.

Per Ellen and her family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded, and no formal services have been scheduled at this time. Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown has been entrusted with the care of Ellen and her family. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Ellen Kathryn (Peters) Clemens was born April 3, 1949, in Lancaster, New York. She was the daughter of Edward and Kathryn (Smith) Peters. Ellen attended Deerfield High School and continued her education at Upper Iowa University, where she studied Psychology. On August 9, 1969 she married the love of her life Gary Louis Clemens. Ellen was devoted mom and wife, who loved to care for her children and her family. She worked at Bedford High School in Bedford, Iowa, as a secretary.

Ellen was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, woodworking, and trips to the casino. She also loved painting pictures of fruits and flowers using oils and watercolors. Ellen and her husband, Gary, were known for traveling to various craft shows throughout the country. Anyone who was close to Ellen knew of her love for Hershey’s kisses and vanilla ice cream.

She is survived by her loving daughter: Elizabeth (Clemens) Griego of Marshalltown; her three adored grandsons: Kyle, Carter and Miles Griego; her brothers: Dale Peters of Illinois and John Peters of Arizona; her sister-in-law: Lonnie Peters; and her grand pup: Wrigley.

Ellen is preceded in death by her parents: Edward and Kathryn; her husband: Gary; her son: Matt; and her brother: Don Peters.
