Born February 13, 1935 in State Center, Iowa, Ellen was the daughter of Harold and Cordelia (Hartwig) Nolta. Ellen was united in marriage to James Hutcheson on February 5th, 1953. the couple were married for almost 71 years before Jim’s passing. They made their home in Albion, Iowa and raised 5 children. Steve Hutcheson (Joyce), Jamey Hutcheson (Mindy), Tim Hutcheson, Troy Hutcheson (Tracy), Tammy Amundson (Bryan). She loved her grandchildren, Dustin, Bryce, Linsey, Brant, Kyle, Courtney, Ross, Jessie, Cody, Dalton, and Brianna. She has 7 great grandchildren.
Ellen was the avid Hawkeye fan, her loyalty shining bright at every home game. For years, she and Jim never missed a chance to cheer on their team, their enthusiasm only growing as they traveled with Gordan and Melissa Keeler to sixteen Iowa Hawkeye Football Bowl games, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Known around town as "Hawkeye," she proudly sported her black and gold, a symbol of her unwavering support and love for her team. Always quick to remind her family that she had countless friends; Ellen’s social circle was as vibrant as her garden in full bloom. Her favorite pastime was relaxing on her back porch swing on sunny days, gently swaying while clutching her cordless phone, chatting away with her friends. Her love for her acreage and flowers was evident in her lush garden, and she often convinced visiting friends to lend a hand in gathering fallen apples, turning simple chores into joyful moments of togetherness. When her family and friends would leave her house, she would be at the kitchen window waving bye.
Ellen loved her Albion Presbyterian Church, and one of her favorite ways to serve was helping with the annual chili suppers. She especially enjoyed shopping at Marshalltown Mall back when there were many stores.
The employees at Hy-Vee always knew when Ellen was in the store, you could hear her from every aisle. Her friends joked that a quick 30-minute grocery trip with her would easily turn into two hours because she enjoyed visiting with everyone she met.
Her kitchen was her favorite place in the house. She loved welcoming family and friends with delicious baked goods and spending time talking and laughing together. Ellen was a devoted, hardworking woman who raised five children, worked full-time, and later dedicated herself to caring for Jim full-time. Of all her jobs, her favorite was shopping for the residents of the Iowa Veterans Home.
Ellen loved her sister Marilyn Staebler, with all her heart. Their bond was built on a lifetime of shared laughter, unwavering support, and a love that distance and time could never dim.
Preceded in death by her husband James Hutcheson. Infant son, Rocky Lee. Sister, Doris Riley and brother Don Nolta. Several brother in-laws and sister-in laws.
