Elliott Stanley

Elliott Tan Stanley, 86, of Albion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014, at the Iowa River Hospice House, with his family by his side. Services for Elliott will be held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home on Friday, October 24, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839 and American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Elliott and his family. Elliott was born in Marshalltown on January 12, 1928, to Ralph Sr. and Gladys (Kelley) Stanley. He graduated from Marshalltown High School then served his country honorably in the United States Army from September, 23, 1950 until September 11, 1952. Elliott married Carol Vogt on April 11, 1959, at the First Congregational Church in Marshalltown. He dedicated 35 years to Fisher Controls. Memberships included First Congregational Church of Marshalltown and the American Legion of Liscomb. In his free time, Elliott liked to read, hunt, fish, and garden. He enjoyed building things and could fix most anything! Elliott raised sheep and was very proud of them. But more than everything else, Elliott enjoyed spending time with his family. Left to cherish Elliotts memory are his wife of 55 years, Carol; sons: Tom (Connie) Stanley, and Tim (Heather) Stanley. Grandchildren: Penny, Jennifer, Kelley, Emma, and Avery; great-grandchildren: Hayden, Brecken, and Kennedy. Siblings: Mildred (Jim) Mayer of Richmond, Virginia; Dorcelle (Ted) Trowbridge of Marshalltown, Ralph (Phyllis) Stanley, Jr. of Marshalltown, and Mary Jane (Johnnie) Hitchings of Marshalltown; and many nieces and nephews. Elliott was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Diane, in infancy; and his brother-in-law, Earl Khile.
