Elmer Starr, 79, of 314 North 15th Avenue, Marshalltown, died Thursday night, November 1st, at his home while in care of the Iowa River Hospice. His death came peacefully at 9:50 p.m. with his loving family at his side. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 6th, at the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on February 26th, 1928, in Centerville, Iowa, he was the son of Oscar and Linnie (Spurgeon) Starr. He received his education in the Monterey, Iowa public schools. He served our country honorably in the United States Army for one and a half years beginning in January 1946. On November 24th, 1945, in Centerville, Iowa, he was united in marriage to LoisForsythe. They made their home in California while he was in the service, returned to Iowa and moved to Marshalltown in 1962 where he was employed as an electrician for Maulsby Electric, Don Anderson Electric, Hunt Electric and most recently, Brite Way Electric. Elmer treasured his family, working in the garage, square dancing, his humor and quick-wit. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Lois, his children: Eleanor (Gary) Parizek of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Fran (Scott) Trittien, Charles Starr and Joyce (Kevin) Nisius all of Marshalltown, his grandchildren: Brandi (Brian) Hoskins of Fayetteville, Jeremy (Jennifer) Sharpshair of Farmington, Arkansas, Chanda (Kevin) Bovenmyer of Garwin, Carrie Klosterman (fianc Brian Williams) of Sioux City, Travis Starr (Karen Brawley) of Little Rock and Tony (Jen) Starr of Mt. Pleasant, great-grandchildren: Brittany and Nicole Hoskins of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Tayler, Alec, Cade Bovenmyer of Garwin, Logan Metzger of Marshalltown, Emma Starr of Mt. Pleasant, Isaac Neel of Sioux City and Mason Thompson of Marshalltown, his brother Trenton (JoAnn) Starr of Bloomfield, sisters Beatrice (Donald) Ryan of Bloomfield and Ilene (James) Johnson of Bloomfield, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death, he has rejoined his parents, grandson Jared Nisius, sister Lolita Jones and brother Garold Starr.
