Eloise Klemme, lifelong State Center resident, was called to heaven Saturday morning, February 8th, at the State Center Nursing and Rehab Center just two days after her 88th birthday. Her family wishes to thank the State Center Nursing and Rehab Staff for making her journey comfortable. You really were family to her! Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 12th, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center with Rev. Mike Maddick officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery at State Center. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Born Eloise Fay German, on a cold February day, she was the second child born to Lorenz and Aleta (Gerke) German. She received her education in the St. John Parochial School and later the State Center High School. She attended the Central Iowa Business College in Marshalltown and then worked at Drs. Biersborn and Sokol in State Center. On April 29th, 1956, she was united in marriage to Virgil Klemme at the Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center. They farmed north of town. Mrs. Klemme was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Trinity Ladies Aid as well as serving on many committees of the church. Eloise was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post Harlan G Pfantz. She enjoyed her quilting groups, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs, cooking for family gatherings and birthday parties and treasured the time with her family. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Eileen (Guy) DeVore of Pleasant Hill, Nancy (Steve) Long of Webster City, Mary Klemme of State Center, Paul (MJ) Klemme of Coralville, and Jay (Susie) Klemme of State Center, four granddaughters- Emily Long, Alicia Long, Elizabeth Klemme, Gabrielle Klemme and step-grandson Dan DeVore, her brothers- LaVern (Nola) German and Lanny (Betty) German all of State Center, brother in law and sister in law Arvin and Julia Klemme of Hubbard, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, she rejoined her beloved Virgil, her sister and brother-in-law Etheleen (Kenneth) Veren and her parents.
