Elsie ONeill, 79, of Marshalltown, died Friday, December 10, 2010, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Elsie and her family. Memorial services for Elsie will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, December 15, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Following the memorial services committal services will take place at 2:00 p.m., at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed in her name to the Alzheimers Association. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.comElsie was born May 1, 1931, in Chelsea, Iowa the daughter of James Chekal and Ella Bazyn. She was raised on their family farm in Chelsea for ten years before their family moved to Belle Plaine, Iowa and later Clinton, Iowa where Elsie graduated from the Clinton High School. Following high school Elsie worked at the Cabinet restaurant in Belle Plaine. She was united in marriage to Thomas ONeill on July 9, 1953, in South Dakota. To this union three children were born: Jeff, Jay and Tammy. Throughout her lifetime Elsie supported her husband with his many railroad positions. Together they raised their family while living in Belle Plaine, Council Bluffs, Fort Dodge, Colorado, Kansas, Oelwein, Ankeny and Marshalltown. Elsie was a salesperson at Sears in both Marshalltown and Des Moines for over twenty years before her retirement. Elsie was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Colorado and was a current member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.Elsie is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas ONeill of Marshalltown, her two sons: Jeff (Ann) ONeill of Osceola, and Jay (Angela) ONeill of West Des Moines, her daughter Tamara (Bryan) Dubberke of Beaman, her nine grandchildren: Trent, Levi, Blake, Erica, Justin, Chelsea, Matt, Joshua and Trevor, her great-granddaughter Temperence, her brother: James Charles (Marge) Chekal of Belle Plaine, her two sisters: Barb (Richard) Bacheldor of Iowa City and Jane (Barbara) Slaymaker of Iowa City.Elsie was preceded in death by her parents James and Ella, a sister in infancy and her siblings Henry, Mary, Louise, John, James, Helen, Vera and Anna.
