Elston Hazen, 93, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2016, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #839 and by American Legion Posts in the Marshalltown area. Elston Emerson Hazen was born on April 6, 1923, at home in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was the son of Fred and Lida (Snyder) Hazen. He attended school in the Marshalltown area. Elston served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. In 1952, Elston was united in marriage to Esther Nielson in Marshalltown and resided in Marshalltown the rest of their lives. He had worked at Fisher Controls for a few years and then worked at M. Gervich & Sons until his retirement in 1985. Elston enjoyed working on cars and woodworking but the thing he enjoyed most of all was spending time with his loving family. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Leroy (Malsik) Kothenbeutel of Hawaii, Cleatis Tonche of Marshalltown and Elston M. (Paula) Hazen of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Steven, Melisa, Joanna, Kimberly, Adan, Dean, Christine, Alex, Mary, great-grandchildren: Sondra, Briona, Luis, Shyanna, Yesenia, Maresa, Kanaan, Alexis, Aidan, Edgar, Herlinda, Trevian, Alyssa, Ana, Jany Joo, Dinari; great great-granddaughter, Gabriella; siblings, Harlan (Dorothy) Hazen and Alvin Hazen, all of Marshalltown; daughters-in-law, Sharon Kothenbeutel and Marcia Pacilas; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. In death Elston rejoins his parents, Fred and Lida, wife, Esther, son Frank Hazen and Jerry Kothenbeutel and siblings, Fred, Frances, Emma, Ronald, Lydia, and half-brother Charley Hazen.
