Elva Sue Tomlinson

Elva Sue Tomlinson, 69, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at MMSC. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 29th, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Hartland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She was the daughter of William and Odessa (Clark) Stanfield. Sue graduated from Alexandria High School in Alexandria, Alabama. On July 13, 1959, Sue married William Tomlinson Sr. in Talladega, Alabama. The couple has spent their entire married life in the Hartland area in Marshalltown. Sue was the manager of So-Fro Fabrics in Marshalltown for many years, worked at Alley Silk Screen Company, and was most recently the manager of Wal-Mart Fabric Department for 22 years, retiring in 2007. She was a member of Hartland Church, Central Iowa Doll Club, Marietta Garden Club, and the Marietta Ladies Club. She enjoyed P. Buckley Moss prints and ornaments, quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and painting china dolls. Sue is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Bill Tomlinson Sr. of Marshalltown, her 3 children, Bill Tomlinson Jr.(Kristi) of Ankeny, Ron(Angie) Tomlinson of Cedartown, GA, and Deann Tomlinson (Rich Borgos)of Marshalltown; her 6 grandchildren, Mark Tomlinson of Kent, WA, Renae Hill of Kent, WA, Lindsey Tomlinson and Katie Tomlinson, both of Ankeny, and Isaiah Borgos and Isabella Borgos, both of Marshalltown; her great-grandson, Collin Tomlinson; her brother, Leon Stanfield, of Oxford, AL, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In death, she has rejoined her parents, her infant sister, Anna Lee, and her brother, Jerry Stanfield.
