Emery Matteson, 57, of Marshalltown, passed away suddenly on Sunday evening, January 17, 2021. Per the wishes of Emery and his family, cremation rites have been accorded and no service will be held at this time. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Emery Scott Matteson was born on January 1, 1964 in Iowa City to parents Terry and Marlys (Ferguson) Matteson. He was married in 1996 to Rebecca Goodrich and together they had two children before later separating. His work history included Des Moines Steel Co. in Des Moines, time as a Certified Nurses’ Aide and most recently, telemarketing at TLC, where he excelled at his job. Emery was fun to be around, always making people laugh and had a tender heart. He was incredibly loyal, described by his close friends as “a good friend to have.” He was an excellent singer and was a member of the band, Lazarus, which performed often in Des Moines. Emery was a fisherman and loved the outdoors. He once was featured in the Des Moines Register for his large catch in the Des Moines River. He is survived by his children: Keely and Scott Trammell of Marshalltown; his mother, Marlys Klonglan of Marshalltown; two siblings: Cindy (Morris) Fricke of Gilman and Mark Matteson of Marshalltown; seven half-siblings: Kevin Rhoads of Toledo, Tammy Norris of Albia, Lynnette Higgins of Wichita, Kansas, Lisa Buffum Stuart of Grinnell, Tammy (Tom) Cowell of Marshalltown, Deborah (Ben) Chantland of Eugene, Oregon and Steven (Michelle) Rieger of Windsor Heights; several cousins, nieces and nephews and many good friends. Emery was preceded in death by his dad in 1994 and his sister, Robin McGehee just last month.
