Emma Lucille Brooks Richards was born on April 27, 1934, in Quarry, Iowa. She was the youngest of eight daughters born to Guy and Fern Gummert. She grew up in Quarry and attended school there. On August 6, 1950, Emma married Wiley Brooks in Quarry. They spent 53 wonderful years together and lovingly raised their family in Gilman before his death in 2004.
Emma was a homemaker and waitress. She helped operate the Brooks Standard Station alongside her husband. Emma loved music and dancing, visiting with family and friends and always a good game of cards. She was well known for her spunky attitude.
In later years, she married Duane Richards and moved to Marshalltown. Emma passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Those thankful for having shared Emma’s beautiful life include her sons: Wiley (Juvy) Brooks Jr. of Oklahoma, Ron Brooks of Gladbrook, Roger (Marcia) Brooks of Liberty, Missouri, Marty (Sherry) Brooks of Union, Craig (Susan) Brooks of Runnells; one special survivor is her dog Peaches; 6 grandchildren: Ron Brooks, Marie Lane, Marti Janssen, Lindsey Fritz, Marc Brooks, Julia Brooks; 4 step-grandsons: Eric Peterson, Nathan Peterson, Todd Peterson, Andee Nolta; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 sister Edith Pothast.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Fern Gummert; her husbands: Wiley Brooks and Duane Richards; 6 sisters: Ruth Spencer, Fern Mull, Gladys Long, Virginia Stallwood, Susan Gottfried, and her twin sister Margaret Judge.
A graveside service for Emma will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa, beginning at 11:00 A.M.
