Emory Eichorn, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Friday morning, March 18, 2022. After 69 years of marriage, even a few weeks was too many days apart from his dear wife Marge, who died on February 12, 2022. Emory was born June 24, 1931 in Marshalltown, Iowa the son of Ralph and Avis (Brown) Eichorn. Emory graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1949. He attended Iowa State University and graduated in Engineering in 1954. Emory (#27) proudly played on the 1947 Marshalltown Bobcats undefeated football team. He lettered in football, basketball, track and summer baseball each year of high school. In college, Emory played four years for the Iowa State Cyclones football team and Co-Captained the team as a senior letterman. Emory and Marge met in Ames, Iowa when he was a student and ISU football player. They married in 1952 and settled in Marshalltown after Emory’s military service where he was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco, California. Emory was hired by Fisher Controls out of college and spent his career there working in the sales department. Emory had a close relationship with Bill Fisher and particularly enjoyed working on what he used to call “Bill’s special projects,” working with Fisher customers and planning the annual sales meetings. Emory loved Marshalltown. He grew and spent his entire life living in Marshalltown with the exception of his time in the military and attending Iowa State. He was an enthusiastic and frequent tour guide to out-of-town visitors and his grandchildren, showing them all his favorite spots in his hometown. He loved showing the home he grew up in on Summit Street and his grandparents’ house and farm across the street; the old waterworks near the cemetery where he had a job in high school; Franklin Field where he played so many football games and ran track, and Miller High School, his alma mater. Emory, together with his daughter Cathy, raised and showed American Saddlebred horses for many years. He was inducted into the Iowa Horsemen’s Hall of Fame. He and Marge held season tickets to Iowa State football for over 50 years and seldom missed a game. They attended many men and women’s ISU basketball games and events. They loved their Cyclones. But mostly, he enjoyed time with his wife and family, especially the many summers and holidays he and Marge spent with their four grandchildren and Cathy on their farm south of Marshalltown. His family included his wife of sixty-nine years, Marge; daughters Cathy, Julie (Joe Crosby), and Susan (Jay Lynch); four grandchildren Lauren Crosby, Michael Crosby, Patrick (Britney) Lynch, Sydney Lynch and one great grandchild, Palmer Lynch. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion. A private family service will be conducted to celebrate his life. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mitchell Funeral Home.
