Eric Funke

Eric Dean Funke, beloved fiancé, father-figure, brother, uncle, family member, and friend, passed at his home on November 4th, 2023, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Eric was 53 years old.

Eric was born on April 5th, 1970, to Denny Craig and Nancy Kay (Reisinger) Funke. Eric grew up in Clemons, Iowa and attended West Marshall High School until his graduation in 1988. Following high school, Eric held various jobs throughout his life until finding his permanent employment at Lennox in 2006.

Eric is remembered as an avid outdoorsman, sports fan, and for always having an infectious smile on his face. Eric was always quick to offer some witty banter and movie one-liners to keep the mood light and fun for everyone.

Eric loved his family and friends and was the kind of man that would do anything within his power to put a smile on their faces. Despite Eric’s constant medical difficulties, he did not let that interfere with time spent with family and friends and bringing joy to all he interacted with. His kindness and thoughtfulness to those he loved exemplified the heart and character that made Eric a special man to be around.

Eric is survived by his fiancé, Stacy Pfantz; his sister, Erin (Chad) Affeldt; his brother, Wade (Heather) Snyder and their children, Avery, Keira, Tori, Chase, and Levi; his step-children Zachary (Jessica) Pfantz and their children Zachary Jr. and Lincoln; Logan Pfantz; niece, Courtney (Cody) Somers and their children Cameron, Camila, Corrine, and Callen; nephew, Deric Taft and Jacob Affeldt; Uncle Bruce and Aunt Mary Reisinger; many cousins that love him dearly; and his “girl” Gretchen.

Eric is preceded in death by his father, Denny; mother, Nancy; and other beloved family members.

Services for Eric will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 11:11 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. also at the funeral home.
