Eric Leroy Schmidt

Eric LeRoy Schmidt, age 51, of Albion, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Per the wishes of Eric and his family, cremation rites have been accorded. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, December 28 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown followed by a vigil prayer service and time of sharing beginning at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Eric was born on January 18, 1971 at Darnell Army Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas. He was the son of Richard and Marsha (Corporan) Schmidt. At five months old, they relocated to Marshalltown, Iowa, where he graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1989. He went on to attend classes at Marshalltown Community College. Eric was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lisa Airey on April 22, 1994.

Auto mechanics was not only Eric’s profession for over 32 years, it was also his passion. He never hesitated to help everyone who needed it and would literally give the shirt off his back to a stranger. Eric was a generous, humble and simple man who loved cars, music and Jesus. He also enjoyed many motorcycle rides and was a member of ABATE.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 28 years, Lisa; two sons: Jacob Schmidt and Nathan Schmidt; grandson, Damien Shearer; father, Richard Schmidt of Des Moines; his brother, Marc (Sara) Schmidt of Johnston; nieces and nephews: Brayden, Jacob, Jae, Ella, William and Henry; in-laws Ray and Kathleen Airey of Marshalltown; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles and many friends.

In death, he has rejoined his mother, Marsha and his grandparents.
