Eric Smith

Eric Ray Smith, 62, of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2022 in the comfort of his home under the care of Hospice of the Midwest. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, March 21 from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard of the surrounding area. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Born October 5, 1959 in Marshalltown, he was the son of Marlin and Shirley (Trout) Smith. Eric attended Marshalltown High School and went on to serve honorably for the United States Army. Upon his return to Marshalltown, he worked hard in manufacturing. In his free time, Eric was a member of the Izaak Walton League of America and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing pool. He was an avid coin collector and his collection was his pride and joy. Eric is survived by his three children: Ricky, Jenny and Tyanna Smith; his two sisters: Rhonda (Clifford) Nord of Princeton, MN and Rosanne (Monte) Brown of Olin, IA; his stepmother, Dorothy Smith; several step-brothers and step-sisters and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Rene and Roger Perry and his niece, Kailyn Agee.
