Ernie Ray Green, 81, of Marshalltown, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Grandview Heights Nursing and Rehab under the care of Iowa River Hospice. We will continue to pray for an end to Alzheimer’s.
Funeral services for Ernie will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family at this time. Ernie Ray Green was born on September 13, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri to William “Otto” and Berchie “Maude” (Bunch) Green. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1959. On September 29, 1973, Ernie was united in marriage to Barbara Helfer at Grace United Methodist Church. Ernie had been employed for Fisher Control and been retired since December 1st of 1999. Ernie had been a member of Hope United Methodist Church, a member of the U.A.W. Local 893 and the Isaac Walton League. Ernie enjoyed fishing at Lake of the Woods in Canada, traveling, and very active with his grandchildren when able. Ernie will also be known for his meticulous woodworking, (doors and trim) and the time he helped rebuild his son, Kevin’s home.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara; son: Kevin (Andrea) Green; grandchildren: Austin, Jackson, Carson and Lucas; brother-in-laws: Wayne (Nancy) Helfer of Wisconsin and John (Patti) Helfer of Ames, along with five nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents: Otto and Maude; mother and father in law: Esther and Clarence Helfer, along with his aunts and uncles.
