Ervin J. Oettchen

Ervin James Oettchen, 92, of Gladbrook, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday evening, August 26, 2024, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Green Mountain United Church of Christ. Visitation will be held one hour prior. A Family Graveside Service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery in Gladbrook.

Ervin, son of Peter and Matilda (Wrig) Oettchen was born in the family home on July 30, 1932. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1953. Ervin served in the Armed Forces before he returned to the family farm.

On October 4, 1953, he married Pat Wrage. They retired from farming in August 2000 and moved from the farm to Gladbrook.

Ervin enjoyed road farming, reading the newspaper, and watching westerns. He loved his family and would move mountains to help them.

Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Madonna (Kim) Wilson of Gladbrook, Connie Strable of Indianola and Judy (Bob) Peterson of Beaman; grandchildren, Jennie (Jacob) Wilson - Moore of Conrad, Lindsey Strable of Des Moines, Loni (James) Droigk of Gladbrook, Travis (Elana) Strable of Indianola, Jamie Espejo of Iowa Falls, and Kelsi (Todd) Knoll of Truro; and 17 great-grandchildren, Amaya, Isabel, Ema, Eliza, Cecilla, Lily, Enrique, Aiden, Ava, McKay, Wilson, Penelope, Andrew, Emberly, Gentry, Lauren and Liam. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceding Ervin in death was his wife, Pat in 2023.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
