Esther McKibbin, 92, formerly of State Center, died Thursday, July 5th, at the Covenant Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with a time of fellowship and refreshments to follow at the hospitality room of the funeral home. Born Esther Henning on January 6th, 1915, on a farm near Kellogg, Iowa, she was the daughter of Fred S. and Marie (Lenz) Henning. She attended school in Laurel until her junior year and then graduated from the Van Cleves High School Class of 1933. Esther attended the Evangelical School of Nursing in Marshalltown and, on May 2nd, 1935, was united in marriage to John A. McKibbin in Unionville, Missouri. The couple farmed in northern Jasper County and Marshall County all of their married lives until retiring. They moved to State Center in 1976. From 1972 until 1985, she was employed at the State Center manor and was a member of the State Center United Methodist Church, former member of the Zion Church in Laurel and was active in her childrens activities and 4-H. She will be fondly remembered for her love of family, flowers and gardening, cooking, living next to the Rose Garden, and a smile that could light up a room. She will be greatly missed by many. Two years ago, she moved to Waterloo to reside with her daughter, Sharon, until moving to Friendship Village in Waterloo this past December. Left to celebrate her life is her children: Fred (Mary) McKibbin of Granger, Iowa, Gary (Vicki) McKibbin of Marshalltown, Craig (Rachel) McKibbin of Rhodes and Sharon (Chris) Leonard of Waterloo, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents, her husband who died in 1987 and sister, Lucille Streeter who died in 1971.
