Ethel Buck, 98, of Marshalltown, formerly of Rhodes, died late Wednesday night, June 17th, while in the care of Villa del Sol, her loving family and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Rich King of the 1st Presbyterian Church officiating. Immediately following the funeral, all are invited to a time of fellowship and lunch in the hospitality room of the funeral home before the burial in the Eden Cemetery at Rhodes. Ethel and her twin sister (Bethel Tribby) were born on October 19th, 1910, in Union, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Bavender) Cundiff, the third of eight siblings born of that union. She graduated from the Union High School and later, along with her twin sister, from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Marshalltown. On August 16th, 1933, she was united in marriage to Russell Buck at Rhodes. They farmed near Rhodes all of their married lives. Mrs. Buck was a member of the Rhodes United Methodist Church and the ladies aid and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, church activities and music. Left to cherish her memory is her son Max (Joyce) Buck of Marshalltown, daughters-in-law Ida Buck of Connecticut and Jane Buck of Cedar Falls, her grandchildren: Frank Buck of Connecticut, Cheryl Buck of Orlando, FL, and Dr. Wayne Buck DVS of Chicago, great-grandchildren James and Peter; her only surviving sister Dora Hess of California as well as several nieces and nephews. In death she has rejoined her parents, husband Russell who died in November of 1985, son James in 1991 and son Dennis in 2003, twin sister Bethel Tribby, sisters Mary Hess, Florence Eggleston, Jean McDonald, Erma Cunningham-Rinden and brother Rev. Dayton Cundiff.
