Ethel E. Lurvey

Ethel Lurvey, age 81, of Ferguson, Iowa passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in the comfort of her own home.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. The funeral service for Ethel has been scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, starting at 11:00 A.M. at the Ferguson Bible Church. Pastor Darren Young will be officiating. A graveside service will also take place on February 25th at 1:30 P.M. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Ethel Elizabeth (Watson) Lurvey was born on April 8, 1944, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred and Jane (Ishquaygabo) Watson. Ethel attended Marshalltown High School and graduated with the class of 1962. On July 28, 1961, she married the love of her life Wayne Eugene Lurvey in Legrand, Iowa. Throughout her working career, Ethel worked for various companies in various industries. She first worked for Donnelley’s Printing Company in Nevada, then Emerson Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, followed by Meskwaki Casino in Tama. At times, she could also be found driving a taxi and a bus for the Marshalltown Municipal Transit. Ethel was also a proud member of the weight loss group, TOPS Club, Inc. and she faithfully attended bible study at New Hope Church. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, and studying the Bible. Ethel also enjoyed spending time with her Chihuahua Pug, “George”, but most importantly, she loved spending time with her granddaughter Alexandria Elizabeth.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Deanna Hayden; her grandchildren: Alexandria Elizabeth Niederhauser and Tyler Lurvey; her sister Maxine Burns; and her Chihuahua Pug “George”.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Jane; her husband Wayne Eugene Lurvey; her daughter Linda Leanne Lurvey; her son David Wayne Lurvey; her brother Jeramia Watson; and her sisters: Alice Moore, Kathleen Hoskins, and Ruth L. Michaud.
