Ethelda "Peggy" Johnston

Ethelda “Peggy” Camille Johnston, 88, went home to her Lord December 3rd, 2017. Peggy was a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. In accordance with her wishes Peggy will be cremated. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. The family will be available for a time of fellowship at a visitation from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the funeral home. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Peggy and her family. Ethelda Camille Collins was born on December 14, 1928, at home near Bangor, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ralph and Florence (Hook) Collins. She attended school in the St. Anthony School District and graduated with the Class of 1946. She went on to get her teaching degree from William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa. On August 15, 1950, Peggy was united in marriage to John Junior Johnston at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They remained married until the time of John’s passing in 1988. Peggy was employed by Hy-Vee in Marshalltown for 16 years until the family moved to Sherman, Texas in 1979. After a brief stay in Texas they moved to Arizona and then California. Peggy returned to Arizona in 1988 where she resided until moving to IVH in 2012. Peggy was employed in motel management for Motel 6 and was a Licensed Realtor in the state of California. She was fun loving and very social. She loved music, dancing, bingo, trivia and sports, but her favorite time was spent with family. Left to cherish Peggy’s memory are her children: Dena (Stephen) Burroughs of Chandler, Arizona, Craig (Deanna) Johnston of Appleton, Wisconsin, Sonya Joyce (Randy Mason) of Tempe, Arizona, Sandra Johnston and John Johnston, both of Marshalltown; and daughter-in-law Robin Johnston, also of Marshalltown; grandchildren: Jennifer (Carl) Coccaro, Jill Bauer, Stacey (Rob) Seigrist, Bill (Lori) Bushman, Heather Johnston, Rachelle Johnston, Stephen (Casandra) Johnston, Tashia Blessing, Layla Joyce, Justine Long and Travis Schumann; great grandchildren: Violet, Lily, Amber, Lexi, Marshall, Hunter, Dakota, Amanda, Bradley, Mikael, McKenzie, MacCoy, Liam, Lucas, Lydia, Skylar, Iris, Keenan, Makia, and Haleigh; one great-great granddaughter Lilia; and siblings, Shirley (Darrel) Heaberlin of Missouri, Marsha (Dale) Erwin of Marshalltown and Mary (John) Sinibaldi, also of Marshalltown. Preceded Peggy in death are her parents Ralph and Florence; her husband John; sons Gary and Mark; and siblings Ralph, Doralee, Alice, John, David, Janet, Benita and Bill.
