Eugene Earl Alsbaugh, 88, of Villa del Sol Nursing Home in Marshalltown, died Wednesday, May 12th under the care of Iowa River Hospice.Per his wishes a graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Immediately following the service, friends are invited back to the Mitchell Family Funeral Home for fellowship and refreshments. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice of Marshalltown. Born Eugene Earl Alsbaugh on May 6, 1922, to Earl and Marie (Gorrell) Alsbaugh in Marshalltown, Iowa, Eugene graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1940. After the war he graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in industrial engineering. He served our country during WWII from 1946 to 1949 and was in the Army reserves, retiring as a Major. On Christmas Day of 1942 he married Mary (Cummings) Main in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mary died in March of 1978. He then married Clarice Ludlow White in December of 1985. In July of 2007 Clarice died.Eugene had been employed with American Tag Company, Litton Industries and later owned his own consulting firm. He and Clarice enjoyed traveling, volunteering and entertaining in nursing homes and they enjoyed dancing. He loved to read, especially history and the Civil War. Eugene was a member of the American Legion and the Reserve Officers Association.Left to cherish Genes memory is his stepson Terry White of Arizona and two step-grandchildren from his marriage to Clarice, Terri L. White I and Carie Hughes as well as two step- grandchildren from his marriage to Mary: David Main and Candace Rush. Also is surviving is Eugenes sister Alice Butters of Marshalltown and two nieces: Karen Randleman of Carlisle and Karla Minear of Marshalltown.Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and his two wives Mary and Clarice.
