Eugene Papa Gene Brennick, 80, of Dunbar, died early Monday morning, November 5th, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral services celebrating Genes life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 8th, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon with Pastor Fred Berry officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Dillon with full military honors by the Gilman American Legion. Born Eugene LaVern Brennick on July 8th, 1927, at home in rural Marshalltown, he was the son of Fredrick and Olive Lucille (Gunderson) Brennick. He graduated from the Dunbar High School and then served our country proudly in the United States Army during WWII. On December 14th, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mable Petrie in Gilman. They have resided in the Dillon and Dunbar area where they farmed and he was employed at Martin-Marietta and Fisher Controls until retiring. Eugene was a hardworking, loving husband and father who enjoyed his family, fishing, word-find puzzles and helping neighbors and friends. He will be greatly missed by many. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 60 years, Mable, his children: Susan (Norm) Cook, Pam (Robin) Mann, JoAnn Holder, Sharon Wolken, Sandra (Kurt) Karns and Christopher (Debbie) Brennick, 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, son Dennis LaVern Brennick, grandson K.C. Karns and sister Marilyn Millard.
