EuGene Gene Yordy, 74, of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully at home Friday evening, February 7th 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 11th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will start at noon prior to the service. Gene will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, and will be honored with a memorial bench. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com, Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on October 13th, 1939 in Marshalltown and raised in Melbourne, he was the son of Marvin and Helen (Curry) Yordy. Gene graduated from Melbourne High Schools Class of 1957 and graduated from AIB in Des Moines with a degree in Accounting. Gene was employed at Security Bank for 30 years and retired after serving in the offices of Senior Vice President and Comptroller. On August 3rd, 1985, he was united in marriage to Ruth (Rosemeier). They made their home in Marshalltown where Gene devoted many hours to the Animal Rescue League, where he served as treasurer for 30 years. He enjoyed bowling, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and coin collecting. Gene loved trying new restaurants and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Ruth; his son Todd (Mary) of Ashland, Ohio; daughter Holly (Page) Jackson of Dunn, North Carolina and their children Heather and Christian; Gina (Eric) Sheehy and their daughter Megan of Kenosha, Wisconsin; Jaime (Corey) Patocka of Estherville and their children Ella and Clay, and Erin (Rob) Weatherly of Marshalltown and their children Brayden and Carson as well as his sister Gail (Don) Templeman of Oklahoma City, a niece Debbie (Richard) Wheeler, a nephew Don (Paulette) Templeman Jr. and many loving friends. In death he was welcomed into the arms of his parents.
