Eunice Houska

The beautiful soul of Eunice Joy Houska, age 85, of Marshalltown, departed this earthly life on the afternoon of Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with family at her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Hope United Methodist Church with Pastor Nan Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 7th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or phone 641-844-1234. Born Eunice Kent on May 4, 1934, at Belle Plaine, IA, she was the daughter of Ralph and Helen (Frondle) Kent. She received her education in the area of her birth. On June 4, 1952, in her hometown, she was united in marriage to Donald Houska. They made their home in Marshalltown after their marriage, where they raised two wonderful children, Kathy and Kurt. While making Marshalltown her home, she made the community her life by volunteering and helping those in need. For many years, she volunteered at MMSC, the Moose Lodge, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (Lifetime Auxiliary Member), the American Legion Auxiliary, Tuesday Morning Craft Club at the YWCA, being a part of the MMSC inaugural group selling the chicken pot pies, serving as a counselor for Reach for Recovery and a personal supporter and friend of those going through breast cancer, as she was a survivor of two episodes in 1974 and 1976. She and Don were also charter members of Hope United Methodist Church. In her spare time while not helping others, she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking and traveling. Left to cherish her memory is her children: Kathy Weatherly of Marshalltown and Kurt (Amy) Houska of Indianola; four grandchildren, Carrie (Chuck) Harmon, Laurie (Richard) Houska- Schmitt, Rob (Erin) Weatherly and Ryan (Erin) Houska; 15 great- grandchildren,  Skyler (Chris) Drury, Madison Houska, Brandon Houska, Carlee Harmon, Makenna Schmitt, Brayden Weatherly, Carson Weatherly, Jaden Schmitt, Clint Keeling, Brady Harmon, Delaney Wright, Eden Houska, Gracen Weatherly, Ellison Weatherly and Grayson Schmitt; 3 great-great granddaughters, Gracie Drury, Emah Drury and Johanna Drury; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, Eunice rejoined her beloved Donald; her son-in-law, Dennis Weatherly; her parents; six brothers: Howard, Tom, Bob, LaVerne, Ed and Chuck; five sisters: RuthAnn, Dorothy, Mayme, Carol and Hazel.
