Evelyn Catherine Lang was born April 20, 1933 in her family home in Haverhill, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Sasson) Lang. She attended school in Van Cleve, Iowa later graduating with the Van Cleve Class of 1951.
On June 4, 1956, Evelyn was united in marriage to the love of her life Bennie Hennis at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in State Center. Together they began a family of their own raising four children, DeAnna, Kevin, Kari and David. She began working for St. Mary Catholic School where she worked in the kitchen and served lunch. When her daughter, DeAnna went to Anson Elementary, she followed suit and worked with the Marshalltown Community School District for 26 years until her retirement. Outside of work, Evelyn stayed diligent helping to serve in the kitchen of the church on the funeral lunch committee.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish-St. Henry Church for many years, faithfully attending until she was unable to do so due to health. In her free time, her first love was being a grandma. She would go to all events she was able for her grandchildren and just always being ready to help her children when needed. She enjoyed going out to support Marshalltown Bobcat activities and the MCC Tigers Baseball. She had a knack for quilting making a special quilt for each of her children and grandchildren. With gardening she always took pride in her vegetable garden one year making a large pumpkin patch so that each of the neighbor children were able to have their own. Before Bennie’s passing, she enjoyed activities such as fishing, taking rides on their Harley and snow birding in Arizona for 10 years.
Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, Kevin (Kim) Hennis of Conroe, TX, Kari (Scott) Riemenschneider of Marshalltown, IA, David (Beth) Hennis of Waxhaw, NC and also son-in-law, Dan Daters of Marshalltown, IA; her 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Joann Lanz of Stockton, CA and brother-in-law, Jim Stanley of Pueblo, CO; alongside numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In her passing, she rejoins her husband Bennie; her daughter, DeAnna Daters; parents, Joseph and Rose Lang; and her siblings, Lue, Dale, Lorraine and Earl “Bud.”
