Evelyn Lawson, 92, of Marshalltown, passed away from her earthly home on Monday to her mansion in heaven on August 8, 2016 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Evelyn will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Donations can be directed to the Iowa River Hospice Home or LeGrand Friends Church. Evelyn Dannenberg was born on May 27, 1924 in Hubbard, Iowa to Emil and Louise Dannenberg. She was an only child but she had many cousins to grow up with. She graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1941 and moved to Marshalltown in 1942. Her first job was at the Tallcorn Hotel as a maid then a waitress at Kresges. She married Gerald Lawson in 1946 and began a family of seven children. Evelyn was employed as a waitress at Vans Caf, Kresges and the Pancake House and then the Water Dept. before moving to Denver in 1972 with the two youngest children. There she worked as a waitress and a flower arranger before retiring in 1989. She moved to Arizona in 2001 and then back to Marshalltown in 2013. She enjoyed bowling, arts and crafts, crocheting, traveling, scrapbooking and line dancing to country music. She would walk one mile every day and she won 15 medals while walking the 10k in Bolder Boulder, Colorado for 20 years. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of her childrens and grandchildrens success in life. Evelyn is survived by her children: Barbara (John) Shackelford of Tennessee, Darrell Lawson of Des Moines, Curtis (Teresa) Lawson of Tennessee, Dwight Lawson of Marshalltown, Rodney Lawson of Marshalltown, David (Cherie) Lawson of Colorado and Brenda Lawson of Colorado. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents Emil and Louise and all of her aunts and uncles and a few cousins. The pallbearers for Evelyns service will be Curt Lawson, Dwight Lawson, Rod Lawson, David Lawson, Bryce Lawson and Troy Lawson. Honorary pallbearers are Darrell Lawson, Ken Lawson, Kurtis Mork and Dean Mork.
