Evelyn ONeal, 92, of the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center, died there early Wednesday morning. The family appreciates their care for the past eight years and that of Iowa River Hospice, especially her close friend Karla Mineer. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 18, at Rose Hill. Visitation will be held from 1-1:45 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born Evelyn Gill on July 18, 1918, in Decatur County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Fred and Blanche (Burchett) Gill. She received her education in their schools, graduating in 1935 and later lettered in basketball from Simpson College in Indianola, graduating in 1939. Mrs. ONeal began her teaching career in Menlo.Evelyn was united in marriage to Don ONeal and they made their home in LaMoille and later Marshalltown. After raising her family, she returned to teaching, first at Gilman for nine years and later Marshalltown as a home-ec teacher until retiring. Evelyn was a member of the Tularcal Club, Elmwood Country Club and was an avid golfer- winning many championships at Elmwood. She enjoyed fishing, and treasured her family. Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Larry (Judy) and Rod (Cher) all of Marshalltown, four grandchildren: Angie (Mike) Lovell, Ryan (Jen) ONeal, Shannon ONeal (Joe Gross) and Shay (Tonya) ONeal; and great-grandchildren- Zach, Ryan, Ella, Ayden, Alyssa, Lexie, Hunter and Lauren. In death, she rejoined her beloved Donald who died in 1983, her parents and sisters Helen Wade and Frieda Jones.
