Evelyn Grammy Paxton, 86, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Memorial services for Evelyn will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Hope United Methodist Church. Family and friends are invited to share memories at 1:00 PM until the time of service at the church on Sunday, September 26. Following services, interment will take place at the Maple Hill Cemetery near Montour. Memorial donations may be directed in Evelyns name to her family. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com Evelyn was born November 28, 1923, in Brooklyn, Iowa the daughter of Wayne and Ruth (Davis) Spire. She was raised and educated in Tama County, Iowa and graduated from the Tama High School with the class of 1941. Evelyn was married to Richard Wolford in 1943, they later divorced. Evelyn was married to Edward Paxton in 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas. Evelyn led a very active life. She taught school, worked as a bomb maker during World War II, owned ice cream shops, managed a grocery store and retired from Marshalltown Savings and Loan after more than twenty years of service. Evelyn enjoyed reading books, sewing and playing cards with her friends. Most of all Evelyn loved spending time with her family and life long friends. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Carol Sue Hoskey of Maryville, Missouri and her daughter Shari Upah (Dan Stubbs) of Marshalltown, her sister Verna Lacina of Toledo, her brother Dean (Sue) Spire of New York, her grandchildren: Mick (Annette) Hoskey, Carla Hoskey, Monte (Kellie) Hoskey, Troy (Kim) Upah, Lori (Troy) White, Trent (Michelle) Upah, and Tad ( Nicole) Upah; her great-grandchildren: Amber (Jake) Niederhauser, Adam Kunkel, Jaclyn Kunkel, Megan Hoskey, Alexis Hoskey, Andrew Upah, Courtney Upah, Jared White, Joshua White, Sam Upah, Emilee Upah, Max Upah, Brittney Upah, Madison Upah, Hunter Upah, Lexee Upah, Kaylee Tyda and baby-to-be Kayden Upah and her great-great grandson Drexel Niederhauser plus many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands Richard Wolford and Edward Paxton and her sister Marion Manfull.
