Evelyn Mae Runner

Evelyn Mae Runner, 91, of Ferguson passed away on July 10, 2017 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames with her family by her side. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with a public visitation held one hour prior to the service. Evelyn was born on May 19, 1926 to Oscar and Laura (Hennamen) Perry in Mingo, Iowa. She graduated from Mingo High School in 1943 and then obtained her teaching certificate. The next year she was teaching in a one room school house until 1948. Her love of gardening started with her mother and she continued to garden throughout her life, which she took and ran with it. On December 28, 1947 she was united in marriage to Charles Runner in Nashua, Iowa. In the spring of 1948 she moved to Laurel with her new husband and they raised four children. One of her favorite jobs was working at Swift Greenhouses. She was a proud member of the Laurel Garden Club, head of The Meeting Place, (garden club booth at the Iowa State Fair), the Baxter O.D.O. Club, and was a member of the Iowa Garden Club Group, which they traveled to Oklahoma after the bombings to plant trees of remembrance. Evelyn was an accredited judge for horticulture and flower arrangements. Every Sunday friends and family would come and sample her famous homemade bread. Evelyn loved making rugs on her loom to give as presents. In Evelyns free time she loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Left to cherish Evelyns memory are her children, Lee Ann Krough of Le Grand, Leroy Runner of the Iowa Veterans Home, Harriett Hall of Marshalltown, and Hal Runner of Gilman; grandchildren: Michael Krough, Michelle Jones, Jason Krough, Jaclyn Moore, Jaecob Runner, Donald Gene Hall, Andrew Runner, and Mikey Davis; great-grandchildren: Felix, Austen, Alice, Aden, Marissa, Colton, Jenna, Jordan, Addison, Kevin, and Caleb. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Charles; her grandsons Charles Ryan and Alex Westley; siblings: Orvin, Lowell, Velma, Wanda, Lloyd, and Lester; and her parents Oscar and Laura.
