Fern Hays-Poling

Fern Hays-Poling, 93, of the Villa del Sol, died there Thursday, April 14, 2011, while in the loving care of her family and Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services for Fern will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will be held at the Green Mountain Cemetery. Visitation for Fern will be from 5:00 p.m., - 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 18, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. She was raised and educated in the Albion area and graduated from the Albion High School. Following high school Fern was married to Joe Hays and they raised their family in the Albion, Green Mountain, and Beaman areas. Fern loved wildlife, flowers, gardening, playing the piano, making crafts, fishing with her family and enjoyed watching the birds on her birdfeeder. Above all she loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed. She was a member of the Albion United Methodist Church. Fern is survived by her daughter Linda (Wayne) Tempel of LaMoille, her son Don W. (Jane) Hays of Albion, her son Bob (Rita) Hays of Grand Island, Nebraska, her son-in-law Jerry Minard of Liscomb, her sister Shirley Medberry of Corona, California, her brother Wayne (Norma) Somers of Green Mountain, her sister-in-law Bernadine Randall of Marshalltown, her stepchildren: Kathleen, Connie, Martha and Keith Poling, her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her caring families at the Bickford Cottage and Villa del Sol. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of over forty years, Joe Hays, her husband Cleo Poling, whom she married after Joe's death, her sisters Evelyn Debates and Marge Carlson, her brother Jim Randall, a stillborn daughter, her daughter Marilyn Minard, and her grandson Steven Tempel.
