Ferne Long, 91 passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Central Iowa Healthcare in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12th, at the 1st Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the service. Phone 641-844-1234. Waneta Ferne Long was born at home in Pleasantville, Iowa; she was the daughter of Lorne Lynn and Emily Evelyn (Haworth) Wilson. Ferne attended school in the Marshalltown Community School District, graduating with the class of 1943. On August 29, 1942, Ferne was united in marriage to the love of her life, Milo Mike Long at Camp Crowder in Neosho, Missouri, at the Methodist Church. They resided in Marshalltown all their married lives. Ferne was well known for her work at Fantles - devoting 36 years until they closed. After Fantles closing, she worked at Stones as a hostess for the next 17 years. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa, the Builders Sunday School Class and belonged to a bowling League. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, sewing and auto racing on television; above all she loved her family. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Danny (Maxine) Long of Austin, Minnesota, grandchildren- Jodi (Mark) Eich, Jason Long and Kelly (Terry) Christen, 8 great-grandchildren, and brother, Ron (Dorothy) Wilson of Marshalltown , as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
