Florence E. Wait

Florence (Mrs. Galen) Wait, 85, longtime Marshalltown elementary school teacher, died late Friday night, July 18th, at the Villa del Sol. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 23 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church. She will be laid to rest in the Marietta Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Born Florence Henrich on February 17th, 1923, in Clarke County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Elmer and Bernice (Albert) Henrich. She graduated from the Murray High School in 1940 and received her Bachelors Degree from the Iowa State Teachers College and her Masters Degree from Greeley State College in Greeley, Colorado. She returned to her home area and taught until moving to Marshalltown in 1954. While teaching at Rogers School in Marshalltown, she met her husband, Galen, and the two were married on December 19th, 1959, at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Marshalltown. Mrs. Wait retired in 1988 from the Franklin building. Florence was a member of the St. Paul Episcopal Church, Alpha Delta Kappa, and enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, animals and time with her family especially her granddaughter Collette. She treasured her years of educating children and the 48 wonderful years of marriage to Galen. Left to cherish her memory are Galen, son Jonathan Wait of Marshalltown, granddaughter Collette Wait and her daughter Lillyann Zesch of Marshalltown, step-sons: George (Candace) Wait (Paula Jo Wait, Tony Kinny and Brock Kinny) all of Union, Iowa, and Kemry (Crystal) Wait (Kemry, Levi, and Luke) all of Inglewood, Colorado, sister Theola Van Arkel of Pella and brother Phillip Henrich of Osceola as well as close friends Joyce Anderegg, Ann Jass and Glenda Barton all of Marshalltown. In death she has rejoined her parents.
