Frances Howard

Frances Howard, 99, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Southridge Specialty Care in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the Iowa River Church of the Brethren near Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Frances Dorothy Kouba was born at home in rural Tama County, Iowa; she was the daughter of Peter F. and Velma (Lamer) Kouba. Frances attended school in the Le Grand school district graduating with the class of 1935. She then went on and attended College at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. In 1965 Frances received her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. On October 4, 1940, Frances was united in marriage to V. Ross Howard at her parents home in rural Tama County. Frances taught school in a one room schoolhouse from 1936 until 1941 and then at Green Mountain school district from 1956 until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of The Iowa River Church of the Brethren and the Iowa State Education Association. Frances enjoyed playing the piano, crosswords, traveling around the world, and loved anytime with her family, as she was very close to all of them. Left to cherish Frances memory are her children, Karen (Terrence) Brady of Evergreen, Colorado and Donald Howard of Boone, Iowa; grandsons, Devin K. Brady and Ryan H. Brady; sister, Evelyn Bruster of Le Grand, Iowa and sister-in-law Carol Kouba; and 17 nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. In death Frances rejoins her parents, Peter and Velma; husband, V. Ross Howard; infant son, Myron; and siblings, Carl Kouba, Marion Otta, George Kouba and Wayne Kouba; and one nephew.
