Fred James Simbides, 82, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 surrounded by his family at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Wednesday May 4, 2016 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a luncheon and time for fellowship after the service. Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #839 and by American Legion Posts in the Marshalltown area. Fred Simbides was born in Hampton, Iowa to the proud parents of James and Helen Simbides. Fred attended both Hampton and Marshalltown school districts. After Freds schooling he honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Fred met the love of his life Marie Praska and they married on June 9, 1956 at Saint Marys Catholic Church. Fred and Marie were the proud parents of three children Rita, Steve and Carol. He worked at Gra-Iron as a molder for 28 years until retirement. Fred was an outdoor man in every aspect of the word. He enjoyed riding horses with his brother George. He was a hunter, fisherman, camper, and an avid snowmobile rider. He would take trips to Canada to enjoy the fishing. In his later days his passion was watching western movies, attending flea markets, and relaxing with his dog named Bingo. Family was Freds driving factor and he enjoyed having his children and grandchildren living close. He was a loving father and a grandparent that loved to spoil the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years Marie, children Rita (Jeff) Graves, Steve (Tracy) Simbides, Carol (Evan) Ealy, grandchildren Shanna Blink, Aaron Steward, Taylor and Jordyn Simbides, Kyler, Kolton, Kassidy, Kanalisha, and Kadyn Ealy, great grandchildren Alyssa and Autumn Blink, nieces Pat Gauerke and Deb Alman. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Helen, his brother George, and his nephew Jimmy. A family burial will be held at a later date.
