Frieda Cormicle

Frieda Cormicle, 90, of Marshalltown, died Saturday afternoon, October 26th, at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 2nd, at St. Henrys Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Determan (Friedas brother) and Fr. Don Czapla officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials in her memory may be directed to the MACS - St. Marys/St. Henrys Catholic School Building Fund or Friendship Ark Homes of Ames. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born Frieda Determan on February 22, 1923, on the family farm west of Haverhill, she was the youngest daughter born to Bernard Ben and Mary (Stalzer) Determan. She graduated from the St. Joseph Parochial School in Haverhill, attended the next three years at the Van Cleve High School and graduated from St. Marys High School in Marshalltown. On May 30th, 1947, she was united in marriage to Woodrow Woody Cormicle in Newton. They shared the first ten years of their marriage there until moving to Marshalltown in 1957. Frieda was employed for 26 years at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown and was a faithful member of St. Henrys Parish since its establishment in 1961. Frieda enjoyed reading, quilting, church activities, going to lunch with the Fisher girls she worked with and especially loved her family. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Larry (Mary Beth Oostenbrug) of Ames and Kevin of Marshalltown, three step-grandsons and three step-great-grandchildren, her brother Fr. Joseph Determan of San Antonio, TX. and many nieces and nephews and their families. In death, she rejoined her beloved Woody who died in 2002, her parents, and siblings: Antonia White, John B. Determan, Alma Gochee, Hugh Determan, Paul Determan and Helen Potter. Funeral: St. Henry's Catholic Church 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013
