Gary Krough

Gary Lynn Krough, age 71, of Rhodes, formerly of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.  Cremation rites have been accorded and a private service will take place per the wishes of the family.  A celebration of life for Gary will be held at a later date.  The family is being cared for by Mitchell Family Funeral Home.  Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.  For additional information or to leave a condolence, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. Having been born on his dad’s birthday, Gary was the perfect “birthday gift.” He was welcomed into this world on November 6, 1948 in Marshalltown to parents Gilbert and Beulah (Ogden) Krough.  He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1966. Gary was united in marriage to the love of his life, Brenda L. Smith, on November 28, 1969 at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. They were blessed to celebrate their 50 year anniversary together last fall.  Together they resided in Marshalltown, a brief time in Florida and Rhodes. In his free time, Gary enjoyed bowling, fishing, and traveling to California with family.  He loved spending time with his grandkids and cheering them on when they played sports.  He also played in softball leagues and volunteered as a coach for the Marshalltown High School track and cross country teams.  Gary enjoyed watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes and Steelers. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Brenda; his children Jamie Lynn (Tony) Johnson, Joseph Lee (LuCinda) Krough and Joshua Linden Krough; grandchildren Grace Johnson, Gabriel Johnson, Gavyn Johnson, Grayson Johnson and Vera Sharpe; his brother Jeff (Susan) Krough; and many nieces and nephews. Gary is preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Arnold and Ruthella Smith; and his daughter in infancy, Angelia Krough.
