Gary L. Buzz Long, 77, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation for Gary will be held from 10:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m., Monday, August, 19, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Following the visitation, graveside services will be held at 12:00 p.m., at the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Full military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839 and the American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46. A reception will take place at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home following the graveside service. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Gary and his family. Gary was born March 19, 1936, in Liscomb, Iowa, the son of Dennis R. and Carrie A. (White) Long. He was raised and educated in Conrad, Iowa. Gary honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War Period. He owned and operated a service station in Conrad for several years before making his residence in Marshalltown. Gary was employed by BF Goodrich for several years and later owned and operated the Bargain Center. During his younger years Gary flew a plane as a teenager and later in life attained a pilots license and continued his love of flying. He enjoyed fishing and spent many of his days trout fishing in Decorah and drinking coffee with his friends at the Maidrite. Gary was a member of the American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46 and the Marshalltown Elks Lodge. Gary is survived by his daughter Kim (Jerry) Gratopp and their children: Ashley, Kayla (David) Stalzer; daughter Linda (EJ) Ratte and their children: Aaron and Andrew; daughter Lisa (Paul) Zenor and their children: Jacob, Tacey and David; son Chris (Elizabeth) Long and their children: Jayme and Jessica; sister, Judy (Gerald) Heck; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Lonnie; and his sister, Joyce Gregg.
