Gary W. Paul, age 83, of Gilman, passed away with his wife at his side on Monday night, June 1st at the Mayflower Home in Grinnell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6th, at the Laurel Community Church. He will be laid to rest in the Graceland Cemetery at Laurel. Visitation will be held at the church in the fellowship hall and chapel on Friday evening from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in his memory to the Laurel Community Church. Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is caring for Gary and his family. Ph. 641-844-1234.

Born on April 4th, 1943, at the Evangelical Hospital in Marshalltown, he was the son of Floyd and Helen (Hawthorn) Paul. He graduated from the Gilman High School’s Class of 1961.

Two days after Christmas in 1959, beginning at the chapel of the Gilman Community Church, but later moving to the sanctuary due to attendance, he married his high-school sweetheart, Virginia Crandon. They made their home in the Laurel and Gilman Communities all their married lives where they raised two wonderful children.

Gary was a devoted husband and father who dedicated his life to their care. He was a born farmer and was involved in several aspects of the community, including Marshall County Cattlemen, Laurel Community Church, the Masonic Lodge, president of the Little League and different tractor drives. Gary proudly earned his pilot’s license in 1962. Together they enjoyed square dancing and dances in general, traveling and being with family.

Left to cherish his memory are Virginia, his loving wife of 66 years; his son Wesley Crandon (Sheila) Paul of Gilman; five grandchildren- Natasha Schuchmann, Holly (Skip) Thomas, Colton (Molly) Paul, Johnny (Megan) Wilson and Molly (Pete) Noellsch; great-grandchildren- Taylor Thomas, Piper Wilson, Vera, Nova, Pleasant Noellsch and Colbie Paul, as well as many other family and friends.

In death, Gary rejoined his parents, his sister, Cindy Robinett, and his daughter, Bambi Sue Paul Rosedale who passed in 2003.
