Gary Stattler, 78, of Conrad, Iowa passed away on June 4, 2019 at the Iowa River Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad, Iowa at 10:00 am, with a public visitation held on Sunday, June 9 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm, also at the church. Gary was born in Keswick, Iowa. He was the son of Russel and Alice (Bean) Stattler. He was a graduate of HLV in Victor and after high school he attended the Iowa State Teacher’s College, graduated from UNI, and SUI with a Master’s Degree. While at UNI Gary married Mary Rupp, and the two made their lives together in Conrad, both teaching for many years. Gary loved to garden both flowers and vegetables. He was also an avid potter, working out of his basement studio. Gary was very actively involved in the Boy Scouts and held many leadership roles in his lifelong membership. He won many awards through the Boy Scouts, his proudest honor being awarded the Vigil Honor and Founder’s Award by the Scouts that he strove to serve. Gary made a lasting impression on countless friends and family and will be mourned by those who had the opportunity to know him. Left to cherish Gary’s memory is his wife, Mary, son Dave (Azucenna) Stattler, granddaughter Marissa, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tim and Ruth Duritsa, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Claudette and Raymond Ballard, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russel and Alice, his two brothers in infancy Steven and Edwin, foster son Robert Phillips, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Carol and Vern Chapman, and his dear friend Martin Dahl.
