Gary Steffensen

Gary Leonard Steffensen, 80, of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully at Bickford on July 2, 2024, joining the love of his life, Nancy.

Funeral services for Gary will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Gary Steffensen was born on December 1, 1943 in State Center, Iowa to Leonard and Floy (Riemenschneider) Steffensen. He graduated from State Center Community High School in 1962. Gary was united in marriage to Nancy Keys on December 4, 1965. He had worked at Goodyear Tire and later purchased a service station and opened up Steffensen’s Gas in 1981, where he made service a priority.

While working, Gary and Nancy had two children: Ty and Julie. They were later blessed with three grandchildren: Ty Jr., Tad, and Tabitha. Gary and Nancy enjoyed traveling and going to everything that was related to their grandchildren. In the summer, Gary loved planting flowers. He was very proud to have the most gorgeous yard in town. Once Nancy passed, Gary was blessed with a great-granddaughter: Abigail. He loved to hear her fishing stories, watch her play with the piano and make her laugh.

Left to cherish his memory is their dog: Katie; great-granddaughter: Abigail; grandchildren: Ty Jr., Tad, Tabitha (Paden) along with his daughter: Julie and sister: Connie.

Gary is preceded in death by his son: Ty; parents: Leonard and Floy and finally rejoined with his wife: Nancy.
