Gene Martin

Gene Arnold Martin, 80, of Albion, Iowa passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family and in the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014, at the funeral home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice. Gene was born in Des Moines, Iowa on March 24, 1934; he was the son of Wilfred Franklin Pokey and Dorothy Myra (Wagner) Martin. Gene attended school in the Marshalltown Community School District and graduated with the class of 1952, and from Marshalltown Community College in 1954. On June 6, 1954, Gene was united in marriage to Shirley Brown at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. Gene was employed by Cliftons Grocery (meat department) for 19 years. He also worked for Hy-Vee in Marshalltown, and other locations. He was manager of the meat department at Hy-Vee #2 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Left to cherish Genes memory is his wife of 60 years, Shirley Martin of Albion, Iowa, daughter, Denise (Randy) Gibbons of Breckenridge, Colorado, sons, Larry (Trish) Martin of Albion, Iowa, Terry (Tina) Martin of Boliver, Missouri and daughter-in-law Pam Martin of Metamora, Illinois, and ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Sisters, Shirley (Merrill) Price and Marrlee(Lyle) Airey. Gene was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Jerry, his parents, step-father Ersel Bill Pickens and baby sister, Deloris Darlene Martin.
