Gene Seim, 94, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his family at his side.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 3rd, at the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until near service time at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marshalltown with closing prayers and a message in music to occur before the graveside service. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice as they made his last journey filled with comfort and peace. Condolences may be shared at www.mitchellfh.com. Gene was born on January 19, 1929 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Gustav Seim and Clara (Simonson) Seim. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1947. After graduation he worked for Electric Light in Marshalltown.
On September 1, 1951, Gene was united in marriage to Esther Hartbeck at Emanual Reform Church, Klemme, Iowa. After marriage Gene and Esther farmed in northern Iowa for seven years. In 1959 the couple returned to Marshalltown.
Gene was a member of the Marshalltown Police Department for two years, worked at Marshalltown Instruments for 11 years, and in 1972 he began working at Fisher Controls and retired in 1992 after 20 years. In 1996 Gene decided to accept part-time employment at the Marshall County Courthouse as parking attendant and voting booth setup. He retired again in 2009 after 13 years. Gene enjoyed working with wood in his shop and was exceptionally proud of his Norwegian Heritage.
Gene is survived by his children, Deb Keller (Ron), Doug Seim, Tim Seim (Jan), Mindy Hutcheson (Jamey), Janelle Whaley (John). His sister Marge Losee, sister-in-law Miriam Fritzemeier, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Esther, son Matthew, grandson Derick Seim, sisters Verna Montikas, and Caroline Stuczynski, and two sisters-in-law, Lucille Jurgemeyer and Marjorie Jurgemeyer.
