Genevieve Weiss was born on September 21, 1927, in Woodside, Long Island, the daughter of Frederick and Jenny (Brule) Weiss. She was raised and educated in Upstate New York, graduating from Fort Plain High School, class of 1945. As a girl, she loved living on the family dairy farm. On June 25, 1950, Genevieve was united in marriage to the love of her life, Richard P. Swarts, in Fort Plain, New York. Genevieve and Richard moved to Rockaway N.J. where they raised their two sons, Brian and Randy. Richards career with the U.S. Civil Service brought them to Bettendorf, Iowa in 1973. During most of her working years, Genevieve was a steadfast and valued employee of Younkers, Inc, applying her secretarial skills as the assistant to the Eastern District Manager. She was a devoted mother to her sons and an extremely proud grandmother to Lauren and Logan. Traveling with them and participating in school activities was one of Genevieve favorite pastimes. Stopping for ice cream was an activity that she never turned down. Genevieve had a passion for many things but above all her devotion to serving others was her driving force. She was devoted to this purpose no matter what life brought her way. She was a very active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, Iowa, and was proud to serve her Lord on a number of church committees. If ever you needed a smile, Gen was always there to provide one. Her positive approach to life was admired by all that met her. Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Brian (Karen Ehrenman) Swarts of Lincoln University, PA and Dr. Randy Swarts, of Marshalltown, IA; daughter-in-law: Pam Swarts of Marshalltown, IA; grandchildren: Lauren Swarts of Minneapolis, MN and Logan Swarts of Ames, IA; several nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends from the Quad Cities area. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents: Frederick and Jenny Weiss; one brother: Frederick Jr.; and one sister: Barbara Wichowsky.
