George Gimbel

George Gimbel, 77, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015 under the care of Nathan Adelson Hospice at the Pacifica Regency Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada with his family by his side. A mass of Christian burial for George will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with a prayer service to follow. In lieu of flowers; memorials may be directed to either Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas or to St Francis Catholic School in Marshalltown. George Gimbel was born on August 21, 1937 in Hazelton, North Dakota to John and Margaret Gimbel. George served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. On November 21, 1959, George was united in marriage to Patricia Miller in Bismarck, North Dakota. George resided in Marshalltown for 22 years before calling Las Vegas home for the last 25 years. George had been the store manager at the Warehouse Market, department manager for Hy Vee and department manager for Albertsons. George enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing and just spending time with his family. George was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia. Children: Gary (Sarah) Gimbel of Marshalltown, Mark (Denise) Gimbel of Marshalltown and Beth (Donald) Miller of La Caada-Flintridge, California. Grandchildren: Allison, Blake and Lexi Gimbel and Buckley and Haley Miller and six siblings. George is preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret and five siblings.
